Jane is a registered dietician and senior lecturer in Biochemistry and Metabolism within Queen Margaret University’s School of Health Sciences in Edinburgh, UK. She has extensive clinical dietetic and industry experience and is responsible for teaching both undergraduate and Masters’ levels within the subject area of Dietetics, Nutrition and Biological Sciences.

Qualification(s):
BSc (Hons) Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, gained her MSc Human Nutrition from the University of Aberdeen and went to Canada to carry out her PhD Clinical Nutrition at the Hospital for Sick Children & University of Toronto.

Dr McKenzie has worked in industry as well as having extensive clinical, research and consultancy experience.

She held several dietetic posts within the NHS, specializing in paediatrics and gastroenterology. Prior to returning to Queen Margaret University she was Project Manager for Paediatrics at Numico Research in the Netherlands where she was responsible for developing and researching clinical nutrition products for Nutricia.

RESEARCH AND CONSULTANCY

Dr McKenzie’s research interests focus on the assessment and optimisation of nutritional status in children. She collaborates in several research projects with the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh, investigating the assessment of nutritional status in children with cancer and neurological disabilities. She is Principal Investigator for a project assessing nutritional status in children on long-term tube feeding funded by industry. In addition, Dr McKenzie has conducted several research projects investigating initiatives to improve the intake of pre-school children, focusing on omega-3 fatty acids which are essential for development. This work is now being extended to examine the role of omega-3 fatty acids in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Following her appointment at Queen Margaret University, Dr McKenzie continued to worked for several years as a consultant for Nutricia.
